Indianapolis schools are back in session, which increases the risk of collisions involving students making their way to or from schools.
In fact, an Indianapolis car accident has already been reported during the first week of classes. Reports indicate the crash happened on Monday night as a child was making his way across the street in a crosswalk along Olio Road. An article from WISHTV 8 News explained the victim suffered several broken bones and will continue to recover in the hospital for several days.
The accident has prompted local law enforcement to step up their presence to prevent similar accidents. Many school districts in the area have hired extra crossing guards and will have police and fire units visibly present on campus for the next several days as a warning for drivers to slow down, look up, and be aware of their surroundings. Westfield Police Captain, Charles Hollowill, pointed out it’s important for parents to discuss roadway safety with their children as well.
At Stewart & Stewart Attorneys, our Indianapolis personal injury lawyers understand the importance of pedestrian and motorist safety and hope the actions taken will help to keep local young people safe on our streets.
